Just go out and buy the cheapest HDMI cable you can find, it'll be fine. :thumb:

Where can one get el-cheapo (remember, Cav cheap) HDMI cables from?

What are the problems experienced with a longer HDMI cable? (Im thinking 2.5 to 3m which should be cool yea?)

Ah cheers Mutiny.

Some 3m gold plated affairs for 3.99 on the bay.
Does it matter whether they are 1.3b or 1.4 etc? Seems like the only major differences are things like support for 3DTVs and higher resolutions etc.

Ok so I received the cable and plugged it into my PC and into the 37" Sammy.

Im not sure if what Im seeing is good or not, it seems to work fine but is it me, or does PC output on a big screen seem a bit grainy? I played a movie back on my PC on the 37" Sammy and it seems to look good with no noticeable decrease in quality.

Am I right that with HDMI it will either work or it wont? I.e. nothing like Coaxial Antenna "graining/fuzzy" images?
I.e. that the image I see should be the best image possible?

And finally am I right to say that PC images outputed on a big 37" screen will look a bit hazy/graining compared to their proper LCD monitor counterparts?

No you're not, but over a short run i shouldnt worry too much (or point the blame at the cable)

Even at 1080p the resolution isnt big enough to cover the 37" for PC use - hence they are TVs as opposed to monitors. A 37" monitor would have an uber res, therefore if the pixels are bigger it will appear grainier. My 28" has a low res for a monitor of its size, and even that is 1920x1200. Stretch it by a diagonal 10" and it aint gonna look better, is it?

Viewing distance is also very important with these types of thing.

That's what the nay-sayers will have you believe. Those who understand electronics can prove otherwise ;) When you're dealing with >2m then you're always running the risk of a degraded signal, especially with cheap cables. >5m then you NEED a half decent cable otherwise you're pretty much guaranteed to get a less-than-erfect pictar

If you've got snow or anything less than a perfect image then you've got degradation in the signal.

Have a play about with your digital vibrance (or whatever its called on ATi) settings, TV colours are usually a bit out when taking input from a PC.

My TV comes out rather over bright, tweaked it looks great :)

Also remember TV pixels are far bigger than PC TFT ones, so it'll always look a bit 'rougher'.

My screen looks completely different on me plasma compared to me Dell 24". That's mostly cause me Dell is shite compared to a plasma when it comes to colour calibration. I often browse through me photies on the telly cause they look soooooo much betterer

Cheers folks!

Maestro - do you view your photies over HDMI (how long is the cable?) on your Plasma screen? (Presumably to your PC where your photies are?)
